ThunderPlus launches 120-kilowatt EV charger in Hyderabad

ThunderPlus has expanded its electric vehicle charging network in Hyderabad with a new 120kW fast-charging facility at Prasads IMAX, bringing high-capacity charging to a location that attracts consumers for entertainment, shopping and dining.

The charging station has been installed within the mall premises, allowing EV owners to use their time at the destination to recharge their vehicles. The location also serves motorists travelling through central Hyderabad and is situated close to several prominent destinations, including Hussain Sagar Lake, Telangana Secretariat, NTR Gardens, Necklace Road, Lumbini Park and Tank Bund.

The new installation reflects the increasing adoption of destination-based EV charging in urban areas. Instead of relying solely on standalone charging hubs, operators are increasingly placing chargers at malls, commercial centres and other high-footfall locations where vehicle owners are likely to spend extended periods.

The Prasads IMAX facility has been supported through a franchise investment from Kundurthy Pavithra, who ThunderPlus identifies as the youngest woman investor in its franchise network. Pavithra said the location was chosen based on the mall’s high footfall and the amount of time visitors typically spend there.

According to Raj Kumar Medimi, Director, ThunderPlus, investments such as this indicate growing entrepreneurial participation in the EV charging sector, with women investors also becoming part of the expansion of charging infrastructure.

ThunderPlus said the new station is designed to serve both visitors to Prasads IMAX and EV users travelling across the central Hyderabad corridor. The addition further extends the availability of high-speed charging facilities in a city where EV adoption is driving demand for more accessible charging options.
