Tripura is planning to install an advanced vehicle-scanning system at the Churaibari check post on the Assam–Tripura border to improve monitoring of interstate goods movement and curb the transportation of illegal items. The proposed technology will allow authorities to capture vehicle, cargo and driver details and transmit the information to government headquarters in real time.
Finance and Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said the system is expected to reduce the time vehicles spend at the check post while enabling more effective surveillance. The scanner would record information including vehicle registration details, the materials being transported and the driver’s name and address, helping authorities build a comprehensive database of vehicles entering the state.
The initiative is also aimed at addressing concerns around overloaded vehicles and the movement of prohibited goods. By reducing the need for unnecessary physical stops, the technology could support smoother movement of legitimate commercial traffic while strengthening enforcement mechanisms.
The proposal comes as Tripura moves towards greater use of digital technology in governance. The state has also been expanding digital systems such as e-Office and NextGen HRMS to improve administrative efficiency and transparency.
