Amit Chhabra Elevated to Group Head – Commercial, OEM & Institutional at Apollo Tyres

Apollo Tyres Ltd. has elevated Amit Chhabra to Group Head – Commercial, OEM & Institutional, expanding his leadership responsibilities across original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and institutional business segments. The move builds on his experience in automotive OEM sales, commercial strategy and customer relationship management.

Expanded Commercial Leadership at Apollo Tyres

In his expanded role, Chhabra will oversee the commercial strategy for Apollo Tyres’ OEM and institutional businesses. These segments are important to tyre manufacturers, requiring strong relationships with vehicle manufacturers, institutional customers and industry partners, alongside an understanding of changing market requirements.

Before this elevation, Chhabra served as Head of Sales – Original Equipment at Apollo Tyres, where his responsibilities covered sales across automotive, off-highway, agricultural, industrial and institutional segments. His familiarity with these business areas provides continuity as he takes on broader commercial responsibilities.

Experience Across Automotive and Industrial Markets

Chhabra joined Apollo Tyres in May 2025. Before joining the company, he spent more than seven years at Shell, where he held several sales and commercial leadership positions.

His most recent role at Shell was Head of Sales – Auto OEMs, with responsibility for automotive OEM and OEM aftermarket lubricant sales across India. He also served as National Head – RTM & Indirect Channel Excellence and Senior General Manager – Sales, North & East, OEM Lubes.

Earlier in his career, Chhabra worked with Shell India Markets as Regional Sales Head – North & East and Senior OEM Manager, handling key passenger-car OEM accounts, business development, relationship management and profit-and-loss responsibilities.

He began his professional journey at Tata Consultancy Services, where he spent nearly a decade in roles spanning business analysis, project management, delivery, account management and business development. He later completed a one-year MBA programme at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore in 2011–12.

Strengthening OEM and Institutional Engagement

OEM relationships are a key part of the automotive supply chain, connecting component and tyre manufacturers with vehicle makers during product development, sourcing and production. Institutional business also serves a broad range of customers whose requirements can differ across vehicle categories and operating environments.

In this context, Chhabra’s expanded mandate brings together commercial leadership and customer engagement across multiple segments. His experience in OEM sales, channel strategy and business development is relevant to the demands of a market where long-term customer relationships, responsiveness and commercial execution remain important.

As Apollo Tyres continues to serve diverse automotive and industrial markets, the appointment places experienced commercial leadership across its OEM and institutional business areas.
