Hyundai Mobis is developing a next-generation 5G wireless telematics solution designed to support connected vehicle services, autonomous driving and software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
The new technology takes the form of a multi-function telematics control unit (MTCU) that integrates 5G communication and antenna functions into a single built-in controller. The approach eliminates externally protruding antennas while enabling a cleaner and more streamlined vehicle design.
Telematics technology combines communication networks with vehicle data to enable services such as high-precision mapping, remote autonomous driving control and ultra-high-definition content streaming. These applications require the higher data speeds and lower latency offered by 5G connectivity compared with existing 4G systems.
Hyundai Mobis is combining its expertise in telematics system development and mass production with advanced 5G capabilities to strengthen its position in the evolving connected vehicle market.
The company is also working with mobile communication modem specialists to accelerate development and enhance the technology’s competitiveness.
The 5G telematics solution was showcased at CES 2026, where it attracted interest from global automakers and industry partners as vehicle connectivity continues to evolve alongside autonomous driving and software-centric vehicle architectures.
