N. Chandrasekaran appointed Chairperson and Senior Non-Executive Director of Iveco Group

Iveco Group N.V. has appointed N. Chandrasekaran as Chairperson and Senior Non-Executive Director of its Board following the initial settlement of Tata Motors’ recommended tender offer, marking a significant leadership development in the global commercial vehicle industry.

Iveco Group N.V. has appointed N. Chandrasekaran as Chairperson and Senior Non-Executive Director of its Board, effective October 30, 2026. The appointment follows the completion of the initial settlement of Tata Motors’ recommended tender offer for the global commercial vehicle manufacturer.

Through its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, TML CV Holdings B.V., Tata Motors acquired 238,157,212 common shares of Iveco Group, representing approximately 89.42% of its common share capital, excluding treasury shares.

With the initial settlement completed, Iveco Group has become part of Tata Motors, marking an important milestone in the Indian automotive group’s international commercial vehicle strategy.

Chandrasekaran, who serves as Chairman of Tata Sons, will lead Iveco Group’s Board as the company enters a new phase under Tata Motors’ ownership.

A Strategic Milestone in Tata Motors’ Global Expansion

The acquisition represents a significant step in Tata Motors’ efforts to strengthen its international presence in the commercial vehicle market.

The transaction brings together two established automotive businesses with complementary product portfolios, manufacturing capabilities and geographical presence.

Iveco Group has an established international business across trucks, buses, powertrain technologies and related financial services. Its industrial and research network provides an expanded platform for Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle operations.

The acquisition covers Iveco Group’s commercial vehicle businesses and excludes its defence business, which is being handled separately.

The initial settlement was completed on October 30, 2026, following the acceptance period of the tender offer. The offer has reopened for five trading days, from November 2 to November 6, 2026, providing eligible shareholders another opportunity to tender their shares. Settlement for shares tendered during this reopened period is scheduled for November 13, 2026.

Further post-offer procedures concerning the remaining shares will be communicated by the companies in due course.

N. Chandrasekaran’s Leadership Journey

N. Chandrasekaran is a prominent business leader who serves as Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group.

His professional journey with the Tata Group began at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he joined in 1987. Over the years, he held several leadership positions and went on to become the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

In 2017, he was appointed Chairman of Tata Sons, becoming the first professional executive to lead the holding company of the Tata Group.

Under his leadership, the Tata Group has continued to pursue strategic growth, business transformation and expansion across sectors including technology, manufacturing, mobility and consumer businesses.

His appointment to the Iveco Group Board brings Tata Group’s senior leadership directly into the governance of the international commercial vehicle business.

Implications for the Global Commercial Vehicle Industry

The integration of Tata Motors and Iveco Group brings together complementary capabilities across major commercial vehicle markets.

Tata Motors has a strong presence in India and other emerging markets, while Iveco Group has established operations across Europe and several international markets.

The combination creates opportunities for broader geographical reach, product portfolio development, manufacturing capabilities and potential technology collaboration.

The global commercial vehicle industry is also undergoing significant transformation, driven by electrification, connected mobility, alternative powertrains, digitalisation and evolving sustainability requirements.

As manufacturers respond to these changes, international scale, engineering expertise and technology investments are becoming important elements of long-term business strategy.

The Tata Motors–Iveco development therefore represents a significant realignment in the global commercial vehicle landscape, bringing two established automotive businesses under a common ownership structure.

Looking Ahead

With N. Chandrasekaran appointed as Chairperson and the new Board structure in place, Iveco Group enters its next phase as part of Tata Motors.

The focus will be on aligning the strengths and capabilities of both organisations while continuing to serve their respective markets and customers.

As the remaining tender offer and post-offer procedures progress, the development will remain significant for the international automotive and commercial mobility ecosystem.

Chandrasekaran’s appointment marks an important leadership milestone in this transition and reflects the growing international dimension of Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle strategy.
