BEML unveils indigenous Electric Dump Truck for mining and infrastructure

BEML has unveiled the BH60-EV, a 60-tonne electric dump truck developed and designed in India for heavy-duty mining and infrastructure applications. The vehicle was unveiled at the company’s Mysuru Complex on 30 September 2026.

The BH60-EV is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), supported by a rugged gearbox and a 1,000kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. BEML said the electric truck produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation and has been engineered for demanding operating conditions.

The company has also developed a dedicated charging station solution designed to work with electrical infrastructure at mining and industrial sites. According to BEML, the electric platform could deliver operating cost reductions of 40–60 per cent compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment, while potentially avoiding around 130 tonnes of CO2 emissions per vehicle each year, depending on operating conditions.

The BH60-EV offers a payload capacity of 54,500kg with a rock body, while its volumetric body has a capacity of 36.4 cubic metres. Its electric powertrain is designed to provide high tractive effort and instant torque, supporting operations on gradients and challenging terrain.

BEML said the electric platform also provides benefits in energy efficiency, power-to-weight ratio, acceleration and gradeability. Safety equipment includes a Roll-Over Protective Structure, emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes.

The new model expands BEML’s electric equipment portfolio following the introduction of its 35-tonne electric dump truck in April 2026. With the BH60-EV, the company is extending its electric vehicle technology into higher-capacity applications within the mining and infrastructure sectors.

Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML, said the BH60-EV reflects the company’s focus on developing electric mobility solutions for heavy industry. He highlighted the truck’s indigenous engineering, battery technology and focus on performance and safety for demanding mining and infrastructure environments.

The BH60-EV has been developed at BEML’s Mysuru Complex. The company operates across Defence and Aerospace, Mining and Construction, and Rail and Metro, with manufacturing facilities in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru and Palakkad.
