Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched its Auto Green Mission with the introduction of automatic S-CNG versions of three of its popular models: the Swift, Dzire and Baleno. The new variants are aimed at customers seeking the convenience of automatic driving alongside fuel efficiency and lower-emission mobility.
With the latest additions, Maruti Suzuki is extending its S-CNG portfolio into the automatic transmission segment. The company said the move responds to growing demand from urban customers who want easier driving in congested traffic without giving up the efficiency associated with CNG-powered vehicles.
The Dzire S-CNG AMT delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 36.47 km/kg, making it the most fuel-efficient sedan in India according to JATO Dynamics certification dated 18 September 2026. The Swift S-CNG AMT and Baleno S-CNG AMT offer claimed fuel efficiencies of 35.34 km/kg and 34.47 km/kg, respectively.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said the company’s latest models were developed in response to changing customer expectations in rapidly growing Indian cities. He noted that buyers are increasingly looking for automatic driving convenience while continuing to prioritise fuel efficiency and performance in traffic conditions.
Banerjee also pointed to the growing demand for S-CNG vehicles. According to the company, sales of its S-CNG vehicles rose by 58 per cent in the first quarter compared with the corresponding period a year earlier. In July, Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest-ever monthly S-CNG sales, with 83,000 units sold.
The three new models are powered by Maruti Suzuki’s Advanced Z12E 1.2-litre engine, which incorporates Dual Variable Valve Timing (Dual VVT) and Idle Start Stop (ISS) technology. The engine produces a maximum power of 82.93 PS in petrol mode and 69.75 PS in CNG mode, while maximum torque stands at 112.4 Nm in petrol mode and 101.8 Nm in CNG mode.
The engine is paired with a five-speed Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission, also known as Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The system enables clutch-free driving and automatic gear changes, making it suited to stop-and-go urban traffic. Drivers can also manually select gears when required without operating a clutch pedal.
Maruti Suzuki has also incorporated several safety and efficiency features into its S-CNG technology. These include an Intelligent Injection System, stainless-steel pipes and joints designed to reduce the risk of corrosion and leakage, integrated wire harnesses and a microswitch that prevents the vehicle from starting while CNG is being refuelled.
The latest S-CNG system also uses Idle Start Stop technology to reduce fuel consumption during prolonged stops in traffic, while enabling a quick engine restart.
The automatic S-CNG variants are positioned as an extension of Maruti Suzuki’s clean-mobility portfolio, bringing CNG powertrains and automated transmission technology together across three established models.
The ex-showroom starting prices for the respective model ranges are Rs 7,92,400 for the Swift, Rs 8,53,100 for the Dzire, and Rs 8,32,400 for the Baleno.
